“Finally a car show, my wife wants to go and our grandkids. This event was great! As a car owner, the trophy ribbons were really unique, I liked them.” -Mark MacBeth
“This was so much fun, my wife actually has never gone to a quilt show with me before. She went for the cars. I went for the quilts.”
The car show lines both sides of East Pierce Street. There will be six ribbons awarded based on the same categories as the Quilts with an additional Vehicle Entrants category to be awarded. Last year several car clubs represented vehicles from Model T’s to Aston Martin’s.
Not a typical quilt show, Quilts and Cars features a quilt walk which is a kind of quilt show without all the detailed technical judging. It’s fun and no pressure, a great first show type for a person who hasn’t ever displayed their quilt in public before. A trunk show featuring the quilts of Michelle Lavender, a quilt educator, who will exhibit many styles of quilts. Food and vendors will also be located under the Thump Pavilion. Across the way, will be children’s activities and the check-in shelter for the car half of the show.
Celebrating the No Strings Supper 10th year anniversary is no mean feat. The mission creed is “Food is Love”. And indeed, the suppers have been a labor of love. Started in 2014 by the Church of the Annunciation, an Episcopal church in Luling, suppers have been held every Wednesday even through the adversity of 2020 Covid and snowmageddon. Spreading beyond the confines of Luling proper, No Strings also feeds shut in and folks in Dale and McMann. No Strings had depended upon the generosity of local folks and area churches to continue their mission of feeding the community. Feeding that many is a challenge and an annual fund raiser was started four years ago. The inspiration to grow the fundraiser to a larger event inspired Quilts and Cars which kicked off last year with a successful bang.
